SICILY. Leontini. Circa 440-430 BC. Drachm (Silver, 17 mm, 4.08 g, 9 h). Laureate head of Apollo to right. Rev. ΛEON Head of a roaring lion with open jaws to left; around, four barley grains. Boehringer, Leontinoi, 48 (same reverse die). McClean -. SNG ANS -. SNG Lockett 805 (same dies). Very rare. An attractive and beautifully toned example. Minor flatness on Apollo's forehead, otherwise, good very fine.

From an old Viennese collection, formed in the 1950s and 1960s and in 3rd generation family possession since.
